Golf doesn’t have a lot of rules - it is pretty simple really. THe complexities lie more in the etiquette and club house than in the game itself.

It is a game of honor. The 3 basic rules are:

  1. Play the course as it is
  2. Play the ball where it lies
  3. Do the right and fair thing

Of course, it isn’t quite that simple. Follow these rules and you will be a golfer:

Tee of in the area designated by the Tee-markers.

Play the ball where it lies. If there is a loose impediment, you may move it. You can move the ball if there are repairs or man made obstructions in the way. If you lose your ball in a water hazard, you can either hit again from the same spot or drop a new ball behind the water hazard near where the ball entered the water zone. Either choice includes a one shot penalty.

If your ball is unplayable, you can take a 1 stroke penalty you may play a new ball from behind where the original ball lay or from the original place where you shot.

Defer to the course rules on these policies. They can usually be found on the score card.
